Pools in Buford

Buford is close to our office and has a lot of what we do best: subdivisions built in the last twenty years along Hamilton Mill Road, Highway 20, and Buford Highway, most with an amenity center and many with a swim team. Closer to the lake, the communities are older and the pools have the leaf and pollen load that comes with tree canopy. Near the Mall of Georgia and along I-985, the pools are at apartment and townhome communities with heavy weekend use.

Buford is unusual in that the city sits in two counties. A pool on the Gwinnett side is inspected by Gwinnett County Environmental Health; a pool on the Hall County side is inspected through the state's District 2 public health office. The code is the same, Georgia DPH Chapter 511-3-5, but the inspector, the schedule, and the paperwork differ. We know which side of the line each pool is on and keep its records to that office's expectations.

Lake-side pools

Communities on the Lanier shoreline have a particular problem: the pool sits under mature hardwoods and pines, and the organic load is relentless. Leaves, pollen, and pine needles raise sanitizer demand, load the filter, and feed phosphates. Those pools need more frequent skimming and a filter serviced earlier in the season. We plan for it rather than fight it.

Newer subdivisions

The subdivisions off Hamilton Mill and Highway 20 have modern equipment pads that take a controller without electrical work. What they often lack is a service history; a pool that has had four vendors in ten years has no record of when the sand was changed or the heater was serviced. Our first visit starts the equipment record from scratch and photographs everything.
